If you’ve ever driven for a long period of time, you know how important it is to have good listening material. While audiobooks or podcasts are a great option, there’s something special about having a good mix tape to keep you company. I like to make a playlist for my 12-hour drive to my parents that’s long enough to take up a good chunk of my trip, but when you’re dealing with that many songs, keeping a theme becomes almost impossible. So instead of using my usual methods for creating a shorter mixtape, I tend to focus on including songs that keep it interesting, fun, and energetic. These are the six types of songs I enjoy inserting along with my usual favorites.
A Good Old Rock Classic
There’s no better feeling that driving down a deserted road with a classic blasting from the speakers. You just have to sing along.
Something That Makes You Feel like You’re Driving in a Video Game
I heard someone say once that this song makes them feel like they’re driving in Mario Kart, and it’s so true.
The Ballad You Love to Belt
Sometimes traffic causes you to be melodramatic. Let Adele help you through your feelings by song.
Go for something a little out there every once in a while to keep your attention on the music. Oldies are my choice.
A Beat That Keeps You Going
This song feels so good in a car with the bass turned up.
Every playlist should have songs that take you back to a certain place and time in your life, and longer ones should have them by the handful.
