This will be the first post for the monthly get to know Jeeah/Kourtney series, where we’ll share some of our personal stories and perhaps along the way answer questions in the comment section!
Q: What is your go-to jam?
Jeeah: The earliest memory of me jamming to any music has to be a hodge-podge of things that my dad was playing. I just remember he had a very eclectic taste, ranging from Andean pipe music, Carole Kidd, Etta Jones, and Jackson 5 to Cyndi Lauper, the Beatles, Deep Purple, and Queen. I think it’s accurate to say that I grew up with mostly old brit rock/pop music, with classical music always in the background because I played the piano.
I fell in love with Jimmy page — even tried my best to emulate his cool, curly long tresses — and went through a whole phase in high school obsessed with Led Zeppelin and anything and everything to do with blues/soul/rock genre of the ’70s. Then I went through a synth-pop/old-school hip-hop stage along the way, where I mostly remain now. But hey, if something sounds good, I’m on board.
So here I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite feel-good songs from my past-time “Maria” by the one and only Cyndi Lauper!
I have the hardest time picking music favorites. My tastes constantly change and I rarely let anyone go through my playlist because of what they may find there. One month I listen to Broadway soundtracks, the next it’s 60s Motown. That really shows my parents’ influences on my tastes because we listened to both heavily on 12 hour road trips during my childhood.
But while flipping though radio stations the other day, I came across Rihanna’s Disturbia again and forgot how much I loved it. It’s a great song for the season too, so make sure to add it to your Halloween playlist!
